Tuesday, August 1 - In Alytus I found a small construction team engaged in publicly-funded renovation work at the last remaining synagogue in the town. The building, which dates from 1911 and was used to store salt during the Soviet period, is due to open as a cultural centre, educational space and museum in 2019.
